Pregnant-Friendly Trips Around Switzerland

Safe & Relaxing Getaways

Traveling while pregnant can be such a beautiful way to recharge before your little one arrives. But when you’re expecting, long hikes or strenuous adventures aren’t ideal. Luckily, Switzerland offers plenty of pregnant-friendly day trips and weekend getaways that combine relaxation, gentle exploration, and comfort.

Here are my top recommendations for safe, easy, and enjoyable trips in Switzerland for moms-to-be.

Tips for Traveling While Pregnant in Switzerland

  • Stick to shorter trips (day or weekend).
  • Choose destinations with good train access (no stressful driving).
  • Plan for frequent breaks (cafés, benches, or boat rides).
  • Always bring water, snacks, and comfortable shoes.
  • Listen to your body — if you’re tired, it’s okay to stop and just enjoy the view.

Here are some recommendations below of places to check out comfortably whilst you’re pregnant…

1. Lake Zurich Promenade & Boat Cruise

  • Why it’s perfect: Flat walking paths, plenty of benches, and gorgeous views.
  • Tips: Take a short lake cruise (the seats are comfortable, and you can enjoy the fresh air without walking too much).
  • Mama-friendly highlight: Stop at a lakeside café for a snack and a warm tea. China Garden area is also a good spot for a picnic sit down when the weather is nice or pop into one of the cafes in the area.

2. Lucerne & Lake Lucerne Round Trip

  • Why it’s perfect: Lucerne’s old town is compact and stroller/pregnancy-friendly.
  • Tips: Walk slowly through the Chapel Bridge and enjoy a gentle lake cruise.
  • Mama-friendly highlight: Visit the Seebad Lucerne café on the lake for a cozy break.
  • I honestly like getting on the boat which goes around the lake and towards the bottom of the Burgenstock hotel.

3. Montreux & Lavaux Vineyards (UNESCO)

  • Why it’s perfect: Montreux offers flat lakeside paths with breathtaking views and it feels surprisingly refreshing despite most of Switzerland presents a similar view or pathway.
  • Tips: Take the train from Zurich (about 2.5 hours) and enjoy a slow day by the lake.
  • Mama-friendly highlight: The Lavaux vineyards have easy train connections and panoramic cafés with non-alcoholic options.
  • My first time in Montreux was in 2007 and I completely fell in love with it since, just the vibe of a small town and the endless lake view, with a chance to jump into the water for a swim when it gets hotter in the year.

4. Rigi “Queen of the Mountains” (Easy Access)

  • Why it’s perfect: One of Switzerland’s gentlest mountain trips with cogwheel trains and panoramic views.
  • Tips: Ride up from Arth-Goldau or Vitznau — no hiking required.
  • Mama-friendly highlight: Relax at Rigi Kaltbad Mineral Baths & Spa, which is safe for pregnancy with warm pools and breathtaking alpine views.

5. Bern Old Town & Rose Garden

  • Why it’s perfect: A UNESCO-listed city center with mostly flat streets and cozy cafés.
  • Tips: Take the tram or walk gently to the Rose Garden for sweeping city views.
  • Mama-friendly highlight: Relax at the Rosengarten restaurant while enjoying the panorama.
  • I don’t like particularly driving into Bern, but I try to quickly find a good parking spot and just walk it around most of the time or by public transport (only if needed).

6. Appenzell & Wellness Escape

  • Why it’s perfect: Charming small town surrounded by rolling hills.
  • Tips: Instead of hiking, enjoy the Appenzeller wellness hotels, many of which have pregnancy-friendly spa offerings.
  • Mama-friendly highlight: Local cheese tastings paired with herbal teas.

Final Thoughts

Traveling during pregnancy doesn’t have to be exhausting. Switzerland is full of destinations that offer beauty, comfort, and accessibility — perfect for a mama-to-be. Whether it’s a lake promenade, a gentle mountain train, or a spa retreat, these trips give you a chance to slow down, recharge, and create lasting memories before your baby arrives.
